We are 'On The Move with...' Sydney Kings dancer Tiara Townsend from Western Sydney. Townsend has been dancing for over 16 years which has led her to teach dance at various establishments and perform at different events, music videos and stages.
- How did you get into dance? My mum got me into dance - growing up in the Philippines she’d peek through the window of the dance studio close to where she lived and try to copy what the dancers were doing and get into trouble with my grandparents. She gave me the opportunity to dance when she couldn’t. She has been one of my biggest supporters.
- What are your other interests? I like listening to music, teaching, anything that has me being creative. When teaching I get to see my students grow and achieve amazing things. No day is the same with people that you come by and when I discover something in an environment, I discover something about myself and other people.
- Where’s your favourite place you’ve travelled? The Philippines - the people, the culture, the vibrant cities! There are unlimited chances to have an adventure there, connect with my mum’s side of the family, and learn more about my Filipina side.
- Where do you want to travel next? I want to travel to Japan next, hands down! I love the combination of innovation, beauty and culture; from the cherry blossoms, to anime, from the food, to advanced technology.
- What’s inside your travel bag? Clothes, sneakers, personal hygiene products, airpods, selfie ring light to get photos and videos of different performances, hair and makeup products, snacks (sugary and fruit snacks), and a pocket prayer (I read it before every performance I do to keep me grounded, focussed and to remind me to always give it my all).
- What’s next for you? At the beginning of March I am performing at the Mardi Gras Afterparty which is so much fun. I also have rehearsals for other upcoming shows, shoots for music videos, and auditions for dance opportunities.
