In our latest 'On The Move with...' series we connected with SEA Games Judo athlete, Aaron Ng. Ng has a strong passion for Judo and grappling, having competed in three South-East-Asia Games, earning two Bronze medals. He has dedicated 11 years to honing his skills, serving as the Judo National Team Captain from 2019 until May 2024.
- How did you get into judo? During high school, I stumbled upon a video of Kosei Inoue executing the Uchi Mata throw in Judo effortlessly. Intrigued by its elegance and effectiveness, I felt compelled to learn the sport. That moment sparked my journey into Judo, and the rest is history.
- What are your other interests? During my free time, I enjoy watching Anime, which is a relaxing and uplifting pastime. I'm particularly inspired by protagonists who exhibit unwavering determination to overcome obstacles, providing me with motivation and encouragement in my own pursuits.
- Where’s your favourite place you’ve travelled? My favourite travel destination is Mongolia. I'm captivated by the breathtaking landscapes featuring diverse natural zones, and roaming animals against the backdrop of the endless blue sky.
- Where do you want to travel next? I'm eager to explore a European country next. As an athlete based in Southeast Asia, I've had limited exposure to Europe, and I'm excited to broaden my horizons by experiencing its diverse cultures, landscapes, and history firsthand.
- What’s inside your travel bag? In my travel bag, I always carry essentials for my day job and training routine: a pair of gym shoes, gym clothes, a judo gi, judo belt, water bottle, athletic tapes, slippers, and a spare change of clothes. These items ensure I'm prepared for both work commitments and rigorous training sessions throughout the day.
- What’s next for you? I'm focused on pursuing greater opportunities in the grappling world while also striving for excellence in my current day job. Balancing both passions, I aim to achieve success and make meaningful contributions in both areas!
